Aloha Friday #46
If you’ve never seen Aloha Friday then here is the run down from Island Life….
In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought on Fridays I would take it easy on posting too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

Now on to my question of the week:
Did you watch the Meteor Shower this week? If so, was this your first time watching one?
I forgot all about it until my friend posted she saw some and I went outside and ended up seeing 3 in 5 mintes! This was the first time I saw one and was amazed at how fast they were. I was hoping to get a picture of one, but knew there would be no way that would ever happen. It was very cool though.. I ended up waking Paul and then when Kevin woke up and crawled into bed with us I told him what Daddy & I saw and he wanted to see, so out we went in our pj’s and he was able to see a couple too! So 3 out of 4 of us in our household saw some last night!

Now on to my question of the week:
This weekend we will now be in the month of August, therefor school will be starting soon. Are you ready for your kids to be back in school?
While I like having the kids home with me, I’m so ready for them to also be back in school so I don’t have to hear the fighting day in and day out. Of course I bet come September and Kevin is in school full time this year, I’ll be wishing it was summer vacation again. It’s going to be different having him go every day… no more having day trips during the week anymore.

Now on to my question of the week:
What’s been your favorite thing you have done this summer so far?
For me it’s been having the kids in swim lessons! Origionally we were only going to put them in one session, but ended up
putting them in 2 sessions and am amazed at how well they are both doing! The first day Kevin was doggie paddling. Now he is learning to dive and is able to swim without a floation device. Katie’s first class was more just getting used to the water, but now being in level two she is getting the hang of using her arms & legs (she needs to learn to use her legs more) and the other day ended up jumping off the diving board without a floation device! She did need some help back, but she is getting there!

Now on to my question of the week:
How many hours (on average) do you get of sleep per night?
Sleep is a big issue in our house since Paul always is tired and thinks he needs to nap. He averages around 8-9 hours and is still tired while I get more 6-7.

Now on to my question of the week:
How old where you (or your kids) when you got your first pet?
Honestly I don’t remember how I was when we got my first pet, I know I was really young as all I really remember was the cats name. This summer or fall we will be getting our kids their first pets and they will be pet rats! We have the cage bought, now I just have to get some liners made and figure out how to rearrange or living room to fit the cage in here since we ended up getting the Critter Nation cage. (Don’t worry… we did get the single one, not the double one)

Now on to my question of the week:
It seems like this weekend is an 80′s come back since there are 2 remakes hitting movie theaters this weekend… The Karate Kid & The A-Team! What 80′s show or movie would you like to see a remake of?
Even though my first show was more in the 70′s, I’m still going to pick it as my number one and that would be Little House on the Prairie! I just LOVED that show. I would be happy if they just had reruns of it on normal television. My other choices would be Happy Days, Cosby Show and as weird as this may sound Golden Girls. LOL

Now on to my question of the week:
Now that summer is upon us, what is one thing you are looking forward to doing this summer?
Even though we already did it last week, I’m looking forward to doing it some more and that would be going up to Ludington State Park to do some swimming, tubing & fishing!! I just hope that the next time we go the water is a little warmer as I didn’t really get to swim, but just wander in the chilly water. The kids swam, but they are 4 & 6 and will swim in ice water.

Now on to my question of the week:
When you go garage saling, what’s the number one thing you tend to look for?
When I go garage saling I would have to say the number one thing I look for are kids clothes for the kids. I guess you could say I’m a little picky when it comes to kids clothes. I want nice clothes, doesn’t have to be brand name, but just no stains or holes and the kicker, I would prefer it to be $1 or less, preferably less. Thankfully I’ve done pretty good for Katie so far this year, but most of the stuff will be for her NEXT year as they are a full size (maybe 2) big on her.

Now on to my question of the week:
What is your favorite spring smell?
I would have to say as weird as this may sound, my favorite spring smell would have to be the smell of freshly mowed grass.

Now on to my question of the week:
When you get sick, are you quick to pop pills (Tylenol or some antibiotics) or are you the type that will try and wait it out or try home remedies first?
Since I’ve been sick the last couple days I’ll admit that I’m the type that will try to wait it out and try the home remedies first. For example.. for coughs instead of using cough syrup I will chop up an onion and put it in a container, pour some sugar over the onion, put the lid on and shake it. In a couple hours you will start seeing a syrup and that’s what the kids & I will use and I swear by it because the next day we hardly will be coughing anymore.
This time around I’ve had swollen glands, ear ache and sore throat. I had read that drinking apple cider vinegar (add 2 tbsp in 8 oz of water with a little bit of baking soda) will help the glands. I’vehad 3 glasses now (I know I’m not drinking enough of it) and the glands are getting better. They are still a little tender, but nothing like they were. For the ear ache I had heard to put drops of olive oil in your ear and I can say ever doing that, my ear ache went away! Then of course with the sore throat I did the gargling salt water and that always helps me for awhile on that even though the sore throat comes back. Hopefully I’ll be feeling 100% by this weekend!
