My little scrapper!
I am so proud to say that my little scrapper (Kevin) ended up competing in his first ever Karate (sparring) competition Saturday!
We ended up driving over to Madison Heights Friday night so we wouldn’t have to drive that 2 1/2 hours Saturday morning. Kevin woke up bright and early Saturday morning. I’m not sure if it was due to us sleeping some place different or because he was excited/nervous for the unknown.
I got the kids dressed and went downstairs and had breakfast. (We stayed at the Hampton Inn and highly recommend them, before staying though check out Room Saver as we ended up saving $12 by using a coupon off there!) After breakfast we went back upstairs and I told Kevin to start changing into his uniform and he started crying saying he didn’t want to go. (I knew it was only the nerves talking so I let him just be for awhile) Paul ended up waking up and took Katie back downstairs so he could have breakfast and while they were gone Mr. Joe called to say they were 25 minutes away. At that point Kevin was willing to get into his uniform. While he got ready, I got everything packed so when Paul came back up we could take off.
We got to the competition and it was quite busy. Thankfully someone had welcomed us when we walked in and showed us where we needed to go. I’m so glad we pre-registered as it was a long line to get in otherwise. We ended up finding Team Rade no problem (thankfully they called us to tell us which ring they were by) and the kids each got a package of crayons and coloring book to keep them busy while we waited for their turn to spar. We got there at 10am and I should of looked at the time when they finally sparred, but it was quite awhile after lunch as they did forms and weapons first. It was way to much for Katie so Paul ended up taking her away for awhile. They ended up finding a target to shop at so life was good for her.
Thankfully they made it back in time to watch Kevin spar.
There ended up being 12 kids in the 6 yr old novice divsion and I had no clue how Kevin was going to do. I had watched Jessie & Jake give what they had, but it ended up being not enough. So I honestly thought the same would happen to Kevin since he had never done this before and they had. Then they called his name and my heart started pounded. I told him it was his turn and he started walking out in the ring while I quick hurried to the other side so I could get a good video.
This is his first match
All I was hoping for was that he would be able to at least score. If he scored, then I would of felt like he won. It turned out that he actually won the match! So then he was going to be able to fight again. Once again all I was wishing for was for him to score and low and behold, he ended up winning again and then was going to be fighting for the 1st or 2nd place! GULP!! My little boy?!? Fighting in the “champion round” for the 6 yr olds! I couldn’t believe it.
Kevin’s 2nd match
Once again I was wishing for just one point, but unfortantly that didn’t happen this time and he ended up loosing 0-5, but I was still proud as a peacock for my son since he had never done this before. They called his name for 2nd place and he went out there and then the top 4 walked over to the trophy table where they handed him his REAL trophy.
Kevin with his first ever trohpy for sparring!
Kevin & Katie. (She was so proud of her big brother)
Jessie, Kevin & Jake after their matches.
What was really funny was the next morning when Kevin woke up and went running to his trophy and just sat with it on the couch looking at it and saying… “It’s real mom! It’s a real trophy!”.
Needless to say he is excited to go to class tonight as his instructors told him to bring his trophy! He also can’t wait until his sound sharing day (like show & tell) for the letter T as he wants to bring this as well. I told him he could, but Momma will be bringing it for him as I would rather him not carry it on the bus. (I’m sure you know why)
So that was our exciting weekend! One I know we will never forget!
Kevin’s weekend!
I’m actually getting quite anxious for Kevin to get home from school. This weekend is the big weekend for him as he will be going to his first sparring competition over by Detroit. He’s been in mixed martial arts now for 10 months and has been having so much fun with it. When they said he could start competing in competition I didn’t know for sure how that would go. Kevin at first said he didn’t want to, but with the other kids in his class went in November and came back with some big trophies (They ended up winning 1st, 2nd & 4th) he got excited and wanted to go as he too wants to win a trophy.
Of course I have a feeling this competition will be bigger than the last so I don’t know how good he will do. I really don’t expect him to place in the top due to he isn’t quite aggressive enough, but who knows.. he might just surprise me. Last night he had his last practice and I kept reminding him to kick too, not just punch and jab, but he must not of heard me. So when we were in the car on the way home I asked why he wasn’t doing what he was suppose to and kicking. His reason… “because Mason is my best friend and I don’t want to hurt him”. LOL At least he will only know 1 other person in the 6 year old group, so hopefully he will be a little more aggressive like he is when we practice.
I’m just thinking how tired he probably will be when we get home. Depending on how many matches he has to fight.. I wonder how sore he will be. It might be one of those nights where we wished we had a spa/hot tub for him to be able to soak in, but there is no way I would ever be able to talk Paul into one due to the expenses like our gas bill skyrocketing and also having to buy things like a spa filter or whatever else when it breaks down. Instead I’ll just have to give him a nice warm bath and maybe add some bubbles as I know he likes playing with them. Plus it’s a lot cheaper!
So wish Kevin (and us) luck for tomorrow!! Plan on me posting Sunday with his results and some pictures of him doing his thing.
Home sweet home!!
I survived Vegas 2010!! Before I left on Friday I was unsure on how it was all going to go since the longest I had been away from my kids before had been like 26 hours, but miraculously I did! The flight was a little on the loud side, due to we were at the back of the plane by the engines. I was across the asile from my friends and there was no way of hearing them unless we shouted so I sat there trying to sleep, even though that never happened.
We got to Vegas and got ready to hit the night on the town. After going to a couple bars we ended up going back to the hotel where my friend Tammy & I hit the slots. (Before we went to the bar Tammy had won $200 on a slot machine) So when we got back we went back to the same place she won and I used the machine on the other side and ended up winning $100! That was about it for the winnings for the weekend. Maybe had we of gone downtown we would of won more, just that we ended up running out of time.
The following day was spent walking from Planet Hollywood down to Excalibur and then from there all the way down to Treasure Island and back to Planet Hollywood. Needless to say our feet were sore by the time we got back, but we got ready and went to the club XS at Encore. Thankfully one of the girls we were with had connections and we were able to not only wait in the forever long lines, but we also got to get in for free! While it looked like a fun club, we didn’t end up staying to long. I think a lot of it had to do with not only us looking to be twice the age as some of the people there, but also our tired feet were wishing to sit down, but all the tables had the reserved signs on them. I do have to say it was fun to say we were able to get into one of the hottest clubs in town though. Instead we went back and a few of us hit the hay while the other two went downstairs and painted the town red.
The following day a few of us ended up taking a tour of the Hoover Dam with Grand Tours LV. We had a fun time on the tour. The tour guide was quite funny on the way there and told us a lot of stuff. The only thing I wish was different was we could of spent longer at the dam. We were suppose to be there for 90 minutes, which sounds like a lot, but by the time we hit the restrooms quick and hurried down to do the tour we only had about 15-20 minutes to be back to the bus. While the sounds like a lot, it really wasn’t. We were hoping to of walked across the dam, but knew we would of ran out of time. So we snapped some pictures of the overlook area and did the gift shop and got back on the bus. Then on the way back we stopped at a chocolate factory (I wish I remembered the name of it) but we got 2 free samples and they were to die for! The bummer thing was we were there on a Sunday so the tour wasn’t open, but the gift shops were and what stunk was we were there for a half hour. I wish we could of added even half of that time at the dam and had the chocolate tour shorter. Oh well!
That night we ended up going to the Madame Tussauds wax museum and then the Marc Savard show (where he hypnotises some of the audience and has them do things) and all I know is I’ve never laughed so hard. My stomach actually hurt from laughing. After the show Tammy & I ended up walking the strip some more (actually like 3 hours more) so we could see some more of the casino’s and hotels. (There is something about seeing things a night versus during the day) We ended up getting “home” around 3am with once again sore feet. Then the following day we headed home.
What’s kind of funny was on the flight home a lot of the girls were thinking that they gained a few pounds and were talking about dieting and taking some weight loss pills, but for me I weighed myself this morning and instead of gaining a few pounds I actually LOST a few pounds!! All that walking paid off big time for me!! Maybe that’s my excuse of why I have to go to Vegas more often. ~wink~
It was a hit!
Yesterday was spent trying to get the detail cleaning done as we were having a bunch of Paul’s friends over last night for a fish fry and bonfire. Things were going ok, until the kids woke up. That’s when their fighting and not wanting to help pick up their toys started to get on our nerves and Paul ended up calling his parents to see if they could watch the kids for a couple hours so we could fishing the cleaning and could get everything set up. What’s sad is they did take the kids for those 2 hours and we were able to get everything done! Had the kids of been here, I think we would of been working on cleaning until people started arriving.
I kinda of wish though, that we would of had one of those Ladybug steam cleaner so I could of cleaned some of the carpet that is more traveled or even of tried it on our grill as supposedly it helps clean off those clumps of cooked on food. Thankfully no one seemed to of noticed the carpet, or if they did they didn’t say anything.
So everyone arrived and that’s when the laughter started! It’s so funny as usually during get together it’s the women folk who has to do all the work, but the great thing about this party is it’s the other way around. Paul deals with all the grilling (he make a really good venison thing.. it’s to die for) while the other guys deep fry the fish, onion rings and mushrooms. Needless to say this isn’t a party you would want to go to if you were on a diet.
After we got done eating the kids and most of the adults went outside and was either playing football or Frisbee. (I’ll have to post pictures later once I can download them on the other computer) By then the sun was starting to go down and Paul called all the kids together to help pick up sticks so he could start on the bonfire, which in return equals SMORES! Needless to say all the kids went running into the back yard. Everyone got their chairs set up and I had to go inside for something so I was able to plug in the extension cord so the lights Paul had put up went on and you should of heard the ahhh. I do have to say they looked nice out there and it was perfect because they were bright enough where you could see each other and it helped when the fire had died down because then we could see the way out of the woods and to the house without tripping over things.
Now that the party is all done, I would have to say it was well worth the stress before hand of getting the house all cleaned up. Heck, I’m now wishing we could do another party like that next week for my friends, but to bad we had used up all the fish and venison this time around. Maybe if we do have my friends over we can just roast hot dogs instead.
Michigan State is in the Finals!!
WAY TO GO SPARTANS!!!
Now let’s win this one last game!
For those that don’t know… we live in Michigan!
Weekends
Everyone loves the weekends, but I do have to say there is one thing about the weekends I really don’t care for and that’s because during the day it seems like there isn’t anything on television. Unless you like sports or infomercials about the newest weight loss item, whether it be the latest exercise machine, DVD or diet pills I’m sure you would have to agree with me on this.
Just another reason why I’m glad it’s warming up outside because then we will be to busy playing outside to realize nothing is on tv!
It’s coming and I’m so excited!!
You’re probably wondering what’s coming… and I’m happy to say Spring is coming!! Up here in Michigan we have still be having some chilly days, but I’m so happy so say we had a beautiful day today! The sun was out and I was able to go outside in just a flannel shirt with NO COAT! If felt so wonderful and then to see more tulips starting to pop through the ground and hearing the birds chirping make it feel even better! Now if the grass could start turning green and seeing the buds pop on the trees, life would be even better!
Our Weekend
Actually it happened before the weekend, but since everyone has an extended weekend if felt like it was this weekend.
For the last week or so I felt like our Kitchen floor was feeling funny. We have a pergo type floor and for some reason the seems were starting to buckle. I said something to Paul, but he blew me off. Then Wednesday I noticed it was getting worse so I said something again to him and asked if there was anywhere there could be a leak under our floor and the only thing he could think of was maybe the refrigerator was leaking. So he ended up pulling our refrigerator to find that there was indeed a leak so he quickly ran downstairs to turn the water off to it and a long story short, we ended up ripping our floor up to find this….
So most of our weekend was spent listening to the fans trying to try it out. Now we get to have the fun job of shopping for new flooring. Yippie skippy. So guess what our Christmas present is to each other now.
Who’s there?
Last night when I was putting the kids to sleep Kevin kept coming out of his room saying he was scared. I told him there was nothing to be scared about and then I heard kids screaming. So I went in the bathroom and peaked out the window to see about 10 teenage girls playing at the neighbors house with the big blow up monster. I ended up getting Kevin out of bed to show him what the screaming was about and how there is nothing to worry about.
Once both kids were asleep the door bell rang and of course I went to the door thinking it was my in-laws as they had borrowed the truck and should of been bringing it back anytime. Of course I wondered why they would of rang the doorbell as they knew the kids were in bed. I get to the door and no one is there. Yup… we got hit by the neighbor kids who were playing Ding Dong Digit! About 10 minutes had gone by and Paul thought he should pull the car into the garage so he went outside and when he came back in he was laughing because as soon as he stepped outside he heard all these girls yell someone is coming out RUN!! Ahhhh to be young again!
About a half hour later we got hit again. We knew that’s who it was, but thought we still better go see if someone was there. We didnt want it to ring again since both kids were sleeping. We just laughed about it thinking how those girls must be having a fun time. I was thinking how fun it would be to watch them from our bathroom window and as one would walk up to the door we quick open it and scare them, but they never did ring our door bell again.
I was looking at photobucket for a picture of a doorbell to put on here and found this one! Maybe had we of had this doorbell no girls would of come over ringing it! LOL
