Running

You sure can tell spring is about here because every time I tend to drive anywhere I see people out either walking, jogging or riding their bikes!

Every time I see someone running I can’t help but wonder if they are getting ready for the Grand Rapids River Bank Run?  I really wish I could of went to watch it last year as my friend ended up doing it for the first time, but unfortunately they always have it on Mother’s Day weekend and that’s the weekend we head north to Mesick for the Mushroom Festival.   What’s great is my friend ended up running with her other friends in memory of a friend who had passed away.   I haven’t asked her if they were going to do it again this year, but I have a feeling they will be and will making it a tradition now.  Last year they all wore the same shirts that said something like In Memory of Kyle.  I was thinking if it would be fun this year if they made up some custom hats and wore them?  I don’t believe any of them are running it to actually win it, so why not have fun with it then?

Are you a runner/jogger or walker?  Have you ever participated in a race or walk before?  Did you enjoy it?  After being in your first one, did you end up getting the bug to do it more and more?

Along with the time change

This is just a friend reminder…

Along with changing your clocks today, don’t forget to change your batteries in your smoke detectors!   It’s a quick, simple, cheap things to do that might just save your families lives!   Taking those few precious minutes (depending on how many you  have) might just as well be worth it!

Do you know what day it is?

I’ll give you a hint…..

Did you figure it out? If you live in one of the “fun” states like me I’m sure you know.. that would be today is Daylight Saving Time.    Back in 2007 they changed it and Daylight Savings Time now happens every 2nd Sunday in March @ 2:00 am!   So at 2:00 am you are to “spring ahead”  your clocks to 3:00 am!

Because of us springing ahead last night we tried getting the kids to bed an hour early and thankfully they went down to problem, the only thing is they actually slept in to 9:00 (which used to of been 8:00).   Today it wasn’t a big deal if they slept in, but I can’t help but wonder what Tuesday will hold when they have to wake up early for school.  (They both go to school on Tuesday & Thursday)   Most mornings Kevin complains of having to wake up early those days in the first place, I can’t imagine him waking up on Tuesday.    I’m thinking tomorrow I’ll make sure we wake up early and I have a feeling he will be getting a hard work out at Karate that night as his instructor went to a seminar this weekend and already wrote saying he can’t wait to show and teach the students everything he’s learned.   Maybe, just maybe, if that happens Kevin will go to bed no problem when we get home!

Is there anything you do to get your little ones ready for Daylight Saving Time?  Just think.. November 7th we will get to “fall back” again so we can sleep in!

Aloha Friday #36

If you’ve never seen Aloha Friday then here is the run down from Island Life….

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought on Fridays I would take it easy on posting too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you would like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave the link below. Don’t forget to visit the other participates! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

Now on to my question of the week:

If you had the time, what area of your home would you re-organize?

What a fun question for me since that’s what I’ve been trying to do the last couple weeks.   A couple weeks ago we found another house that we liked and was debating if we really wanted to move or not.  Since it was leaning towards yes I looked around and saw my house in a different light.  If we were going to move, would I want to take all this stuff with us?  How would our house sell with all this stuff in it?  So I started decluttering and keeping on top of everything a little better.    The area I already worked on, but I think I would need to do it again would be the kids area.  I thought I did pretty good at it already, but I swear their toys are like rabbits and can multiply over night!

Oh… we did decide that right now isn’t the perfect time for us to move.  Instead we will just keep saving up so when the time does come we will have at least our full 20% down payment (if not more) to put down on it.

Tried & True Tuesday ~ Octopus Hot Dogs

Last Monday our neighbor boy came over play with Kevin.  Since it was lunch time I thought what fun thing could I make for the kids and that’s when I remembered seeing in one of my kids cookbooks how to make Octopus Hot Dogs!   I showed a picture to the neighbor boy to see if he would like it and he said yes so I told him to keep it a secret between ourselves as my kids never had them before.   He agreed and went bouncing down the stairs to play with the kids again.   They ended up loving them so much that when he came over the other day and it was lunch time I asked what he wanted and before I could give any options out he yelled Octopus Hot Dogs.. so I would have to say we give it 2 thumbs up!

You can either cut a whole hot dog or what I did was cut a hot dog in half and then made it from there.  Your choice.

  • From the middle of the hot dog, slice it 1/2 lengthwise.
  • Roll the hot dog 90 degrees and repeat so once you slice it you will have 4 legs.
  • Roll the hot dog again and this is the tricky part cut each leg into 2 since so you will have 8 legs.
  • Boil some water and put the octopus’ in the water and cook.
  • If you watch, you will see the legs start to curl up.  Once they are curled up (it does take a little while) you can sit them up on a plate and there you go!  I did end up making some mac & cheese and put the octopus on that.. the kids just thought it was a hoot!

I hope you enjoy!

Time to start looking…

I hate to say it, but I think it’s time to start looking for a new digital camera for us.  I’m so bummed too as I honestly liked feel of our Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H3, but last year when we were in Alabama it got introduced to what beach sand is.  I had it sitting on our blanket, but the kids decided to “play” with the blanket as I was looking for shells and needless to say it was half buried in the sand.

Since then it still worked, but sometimes when you would start it you could hear it grind a little which would give me the chills and sometimes it would be a little hard to push the button 1/2 way down to focus.  Other than that it was still taking great pictures and video.   It actually still does except now for one thing.  There is one spot on the lens that looks as if I have a smudge/fingerprint or something there.  I’ve wiped the lens to get rid of it, but it’s still there so I’m assuming it’s on the inside?

Here is an example… I hope the picture is big enough for you to see it.  See how Katie’s face is just a blur?

I’ve looked at Best Buy already along with browsing through the cameras at like Meijer, Wal-mart.. etc.  But I just don’t see anything I like, let alone love.  I really don’t care for the credit card size cameras, so that takes away most of them.  I don’t think I would want a huge camera like a cannon rebel.  While I would love one to get the great pictures, I would rather have something that I could put in my purse so if we are out and about and I want to snap a picture I have it.

I know most of you are thinking why not get a phone that has a camera on it.  While I suppose I could, I really don’t know as if I feel like spending the $150 on a new phone when my phone works perfectly.  (I use it just for a phone.. no texting, no internet.. a phone)   Plus I still would have to buy a new camera anyways so it would end up costing me more in the long run.

So now I am back on the hunt for a camera.  It just makes me sick a lot of our vacation shots have the blur in them.  It’s hard enough getting that perfect shot let alone having to do it with the blur not being in a spot that will take away from the picture.   Why oh why did they have to change the cyber-shot to where there isn’t much of a grip on the right side.  (That’s the one reason why we bought that one)  They do have one with a good grip, but the camera is quit a bit bigger, but maybe I still will have to go that route.

So it looks like on Paul’s days off coming up we will be hitting Best Buy once again since I guess the new 2010 cameras are coming in, along with the other camera shops and maybe we will hit the office supplies stores as well since they do sell camera’s too!  (That’s actually where we either bought our first one or the one that Paul takes out hunting with him)   I just hope we can find something we really like!  So wish us luck!

Saturday 9

1.   No matter what’s going on in your life, what always makes you smile?   Snuggling with my kids!

2. What’s the biggest lie you’ve ever told?   I hate to say it, but it would be what I told the kids before.  That there was a boogie man and he comes to get kids that don’t go to bed, as long as you stayed in bed and had your eyes shut he wouldn’t come.  If you talk and goof around (get out of bed) when you are suppose to be sleeping he will come.  It was after that my kids would go to bed without any problems.    My parents made the mistake of telling them before that there wasn’t a boogie man up at their trailer and you should of seen the kids… they cheered and said good, then we don’t have to go to bed!   It was awful trying to get them go to sleep.    I did tell Kevin that there isn’t a boogie man anymore and he still goes to sleep great for me.   If I have a hard time trying to get Katie to sleep (which is very rare) he will scratch on the wall so she thinks it’s the boogie man and she will dive under the covers and you don’t hear a peep from her anymore.  LOL    The other day though she did tell Daddy that there wasn’t a boogie man.. she figured out the scratching noise was us scratching the wall.    I felt so terrible the first time I told them about it… it was over an hour of trying to get them to bed (Paul works 2nds so it was 2 versus 1) and i was exhausted.  When it worked I felt relieved but thought there would be no way I would do it again, then the next day they started in again so I brought it up and it worked again.  They never did have nightmares (thankfully) but I always wonder if that’s because I told them he only comes after naughty kids who don’t go to bed?

3. Do you hold a grudge?   Sometimes, but I honestly try not to.

4. What is the worst job you’ve ever had?   I’ve been pretty fortunate to of liked all my jobs.  I would have to say the worst of them would of been working for the phone company and being the only person to do move orders for 3 states!  I would get the orders for people phone lines to be moved to their new location and the due date would usually be the date I received it or even a few days earlier.  Needless to say I got yelled at a lot by customers.. that was no fun.

5. What would be your dream job?   I love what I’m doing… being a stay at home mom!

6. What is the happiest event you’ve experienced?   Fist it was getting engaged, then getting married, then after a year of trying actually finding out I was pregnant, but my happiest days would have to be when Kevin & Katie was born.

7. What is the saddest thing you’ve experienced?    When my Grandparents passed away.

8. Do you tend to exaggerate or underestimate?  I tend to do both.. guess it depends what you are talking about.

9. List the cars that you have owned. Give us just a few words about each one.  (This list is the cars I bought, not the cars my parents owned and I drove or Paul’s truck)

Chevy Corsica ~ ran forever
 Olds 88 ~  gas guzzler
Ford Taurus ~  good gas millage
